Cards On The Table Agatha Christie Book Review

Four famous detectives—including the clever Hercule Poirot—and four killers who got away with murder are invited to a strange party by Mr. Shaitana, a man who loves crime like it’s art. But things go wrong when Shaitana himself is killed! Now, the detectives must figure out which of the four murderers did it.

A Dangerous Party

Shaitana loves "perfect murders" and even compares killers to tigers. Poirot warns him: “I can admire a tiger… but I will not go inside its cage. For you see, Mr. Shaitana, the tiger might spring…” And guess what? The tiger does spring—Shaitana is murdered! At the time, the detectives were playing bridge in one room, and the killers in another. So, the suspects are the four murderers.

Poirot’s Clever Tricks

Supritendent Battle asks the killers direct questions, but Poirot does something smarter. He talks to them about their bridge game! He believes how they play reveals their minds. “Whether the try to hinder or to help, they necessary reveal their type of mind” he says. Poirot realizes Shaitana had been hinting about the killers’ past crimes during the party. One of them got scared Shaitana would expose them—so they killed him first!

Digging Into the Past

To solve the murder, Poirot and other three detectives dig into each killer’s old crimes. Turns out, Shaitana was as sharp as Poirot—he’d already solved their past murders! But his love for mind games got him killed. Poirot notes: “Speech is the deadliest of revealers.”

The Big Finale

The book slowly uncovers each killer’s secrets, leading to a tense ending where Poirot uses psychology to trap the culprit. It’s classic Agatha Christie—smart twists and a thrilling showdown!

My Rating: 4/5 Stars

Great for mystery fans! The middle part drags a little, but the ending is worth it. If you love Poirot’s mind games and stories where the killer hides in plain sight, you’ll enjoy this.
